Hi everyone, I am very organized in my head. I just can't seem to get that to translate to my office, my closet, my den . . . Hopefully, this group can help me. :)

Hi everyone, I just joined here and need all the help I can get. We are in the process of moving from Florida back to Arizona and I am so sick of my clutter.

Correction: It's Flylady.net

One more comment: Someone here mentioned Flylady.com. I checked it out and joined. This is another "tool" I highly recommend. Flylady.com presents a no-guilt, common sense way of helping even the most hopeless person get out of a rut. The site is a lot of fun, too. Check it out!

Karen, I ordered the "My-Oh-So-Organized" filing system and did not hesitate to put it to use after I received it. I love it and it really did organize my files. I've been re-doing my filing system for years now and in spite of all my efforts, still had trouble finding things. This system is wonderful and the way it's structured makes a lot of sense. I highly recommend it.

Hello everyone. I can relate to everyone here. I think I got my pack-rat syndrom from my grandmother. I have moved around a lot and so buying things always made me feel better, however, getting rid of things made me feel horrible. I did not have much growing up, so I always lived in a fear of lack... plus, what I did have my brother would take from me. So, the pack-rat began...

I think the most difficult thing for me to stay on top of is laundry, yikes. My personality is all or nothing when it comes to work. I could spend all day on laundry and then many days doing none.

I have been getting better the past couple of years, but sometimes it is still a struggle. In my "all" stage, I go through things to get rid of them b/c I know that in my "nothing" stage, you would have to pry it from me like a rottwiler. :-)

We may be moving into a MUCH smaller house soon and I am having a hard time with what to get rid of and how to organize the new place... yuk.

Keep me in your prayers, I'm gonna need it! :-)

Sincerely In Christ,
Alison

A quick tip for dusting: I use a spray furniture polish for dusting, and I don't like to spend time looking for a rag to dust with. So I use an old sock, and just put the sock on the spray can, scrunching it down in the middle so that it fits. Now, when I'm ready to dust, my polish and the sock "rag" are both together.

Baskets! I bought small baskets similar to a laundry basket. I use one on the dining room table to hold napkins, salt, pepper, etc. for every day use. It can easily be moved when company comes. I use two small baskets to organize zipper bags, aluminum foil, wax paper, and other items on top of the freezer. I use another small basket to hold dryer sheets, a small bottle of laundry soap, fabric softener and a small bottle of bleach on the dryer; this makes it easy to reach to controls for the dryer without knocking things over. I use two baskets in the master bath, on either side of the vanity, to hold toothpaste, toiletries that are used daily, and grooming items used daily. No more counter-top clutter. Another plus: If you're packing for a trip, it's very easy to move your basket next to your suitcases for quick packing. I put another basket in the guest bath to hold toiletries for guests who need them.

I rarely print e mails, unless there is something I absolutely need a hard copy of. I use Gmail, and there is a lot of storage, so I make labels to archive my e mails into. That way, they are handy if I need to refer to them, but not on paper cluttering up my desk.

Okay, I really need this group. I have been doing better. For the last 3 weeks (?) I have been trying to do a list each day. Someone gave me the hint to only put 3 things on the list a day, but I find it more effective if I add the things I have to do everyday and see them crossed off. So, my list starts with making school lunches and Bible Study. Then I add the things that need done that day.

My most overwhelming task is yardwork. The fact that we moved into our house in August means that our summer and fall were unpacking and taking care of all the things that broke right away. The house had not been lived in for 2 years, so the flower beds are a mess. Everyday I put on my list to do one hour of yardwork. I can get a lot done in one hour, but it is still very little compared to all that needs done. Breaking it into small chunks of time makes it more manageable when one item on the list could be all afternoon otherwise. (I have spent 4 hours on removing leaves this week and am not even 1/2 way done.) I do get an excuse for weather. We had two days this week of 70 degree temps followed by two days of rain and this morning we had snow.
