About Me:
I'm a wife; a mom; a grandma; a sister; a daughter; a friend; a writer; a dog lover; a homeschool mom...

To put it simply, I am an ordinary woman. I wear many different hats, as most women do. Truth is, it is not who I am that makes me unique, but rather Who I serve. I am just another ordinary woman, but I serve an EXTRAORDINARY God. My heavenly Father continually takes the broken places in my life - in me - and makes them whole again. And when God restores something, it's always better than brand new!

Life's trials and tribulations can make us feel as if we are alone in a desert wasteland, but the truth is that God never leaves our side. He's right there, waiting; waiting for us to call on Him; waiting for us to get out of His way; waiting for us to acknowledge our need of His saving grace. He longs to bring refreshment to our parched souls. We have only to ask Him. Sounds simple, but it is often the hardest part. I speak what I know, for I have learned this truth - relearn it sometimes daily - the hard way; the art of surrender is not my strong suit. =)

But nothing is ever wasted in God's kingdom. What the enemy intends for our destruction, God uses for our good. I have seen this time and again in my own life. My hope and desire in writing - in sharing my life with others - is to bring a word of encouragement to another life, is to share some of the things God has taught me, in order that my words might be like a stream in the wilderness of someone else's desert.

I met my wonderful husband in 1983, on a blind date. Neither of us knew Jesus then, but He knew us; He knew we needed Him, and He knew we needed each other. He brought us together, two love-wounded souls, and challenged us to dare and love again. Throughout our first year of marriage, Christ wooed us to Himself, and just before our first anniversary, we both accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. For the past 24 years, we have walked through life together, experiencing both blessings and trials. For every blessing, we give thanks; through each trial, we are learning to rejoice... in God's faithfulness, in His provision, in His grace and mercy, in the lessons He is teaching us... learning to rejoice in growing up.

When my husband and I married, I got an instant family. Hubby came with a three-year-old son. This little guy may have started out a stepson, but he soon became a son of my heart. The past two-and-a-half decades have afforded us many opportunities for growth, and I am proud to be a mom to this special young man. He married a lovely young woman, and they have added three beautiful grandbabies to our family - twin boys and a little girl.

Once married, God added three more to our little family, another son and two daughters. Our second son took us on an incredible journey as he struggled with addiction in his teen years. When he graduated from Teen Challenge in December 2007, the keynote speaker said this: "Before it was incredible, it was impossible." There were many times when we thought we'd never see our boy walking with the Lord, but God did the impossible. This young man is an inspiration to our whole family, and he is a picture of what God can do with a life fully surrendered to Him.

We are currently facing a trial with our oldest daughter's health. We are on a medical expedition to understand why she is experiencing heart arrhythmia and dizziness. So far, we've heard everything from a cardiac mass to a congenital condition... and the search continues.

We've seen many a miracle in our family, and homeschooling ranks up there at the top of the list! When we first started homeschooling thirteen years ago, I wasn't sure I could do it. It looked like an impossible task, to home educate through high school. By God's grace, we now have two graduates, homeschooled through high school, currently attending college. In May of 2009, we will graduate our youngest daughter from high school. This will effectively end my career as a homeschooler. Once again, God has seen us through.

Remember: "Before it was incredible, it was impossible."

Matthew 19:26 tells us that "with God all things are possible."

I have watched Him take my life - my family, my struggles, my shortcomings - and do incredible things.

He can make your life incredible too!

It's prayer time again...

Dad is home from his hospital "vacation" and hanging in there. He has been VERY grumpy these days, according to my sister, who lives with him and carries the heavy responsibility of caring for his daily needs. I've talked with him about three times since I returned home from Texas. Kim (sister) said he is obsessed with what he can and cannot eat on the renal diet; that he is facing the reality of his own mortality, so he is going through all his papers and shredding old stuff... He is apparently… Continue

Middle Name Game

Here are the rules... 1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts. 2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don't have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. 3. When you are tagged, you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts. 4. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. 5. Do… Continue

Prayers are being answered, and I have a newfound peace! Thanks, everyone!

Thanks so very much, everyone, for all your prayers these past couple of weeks!!!!! Dad is doing better. The threat of dialysis is gone. Prayers have been answered, and he has acknowledged that it was prayer that made the difference, and he said that to the doctor! Praise Jesus. God was so good to me. He gave me an opportunity this morning to share again with Dad about the Lord. My dad gets very uncomfortable when I bring it up, BUT he told me that he talks to himself about these things and he… Continue

Prayer Request for Cheri's Dad... re: dialysis

Hi all: I should have been prepared, but I wasn't. I thought we were basically out of the woods, just waiting for the meds to be regulated and them to release Dad to come home, with a modified diet and the necessary meds to keep things in order. The pneumonia is clearing nicely and they'd finally figured out what was going on with the kidneys... This afternoon when Kim (my sister) and I went to visit Dad, he told us that the kidney doctor had come in less than 30 minutes after we left this… Continue

Update on Cheri's dad

Hi all, I heard from my sister. My dad is in renal (kidney) failure. The doctors haven't been able to determine why and are still running tests... an ultra sound, bloodwork, removing fluid from around his lungs, a possible biopsy. They are giving no prognosis for treatment until they isolate the cause of the kidney failure. As far as we can tell, the pneumonia and urinary tract infection information was a misdiagnosis, so his kidneys have probably been failing since June or July. Please conti… Continue

Hi Cheri, I just wanted to stop and tell you I spent some time this morning praying for your family, your dad and your sister.

One of the things I prayed about was because of my own experience with my mother. When she was in hospital I prayed for her often, my friends and my church as well, but I know that there is nothing like a living breathing person right there, so I asked God in my prayers to send someone along to pray for her and to share the gospel. I did this even though I had dozens of people praying for her. She lives in London and I live in MA. Do you know God answered that prayer? When I called and she could talk she said to me "Vickie there were some christians in the ward praying for a friend, I heard them praying and whatever they asked their friend to repeat I repeated it with them. When they finished praying and passed by her bed seeing her alone they stopped and she asked them to pray for her which they did and came back more than once to do it.

I know that was the work of God Almighty, so I prayed and asked God that along with your praying, send someone, orchestrate a meeting, a divine connection, to talk to your dad and sister about Jesus. I know He is well able to do it.

I also wanted to say what a beautiful story of your life and your son's deliverance that you posted. God is truly wonderful. Only He can do it the way He does.

Praying for you
Vickie

Hi, Cheri.

Writing "Our Story" is a challenge but it won't be the whole story... too many connections, too many details.

Thanks for the welcome.

Love, Chrissy
