A Fragile Balance ~Fiction Friday

Shattering glass in the kitchen jerked Lauren's head up. “What just broke?” she called, doing a mental inventory of what had been on the counters. The sudden silence guaranteed heartache. “Do I want to know?” “Um, I don't think so, Mom,” came the quavery reply. Lauren's eyes clenched shut. The reigning silence easily carried her voice, “My china mug?” “Ah, yeah.” Looking up at the ceiling Lauren groaned. Lord, that was my favorite gift from Mom... Taking a deep breath she stepped… Continue

Holding Elijah

Fourteen weeks after conception, and my precious baby was perfectly formed. Minuscule hands and feet, a face the size of a man's thumb print. A bittersweet miracle. I held him in the palm of my hand and wept for the years I would never have with this child. We named him Elijah because he was caught up early to be with the Lord.

I was stuck behind an out-of-state SUV, who was stuck behind a work van that was enjoying his coffee as he putzed along our rural highway. We rounded a bend, and knowing the road as I do, I was ready to let my heavy foot fall and zoom past th… Continue

Burning Bones

My life is lived on Easy Street and yet, there was a time I ignored God's call to me because I wasn't comfortable with what I felt He wanted me to do. Even now, I feel overwhelmed and under qualified, and wish I could crawl under a rock and whistle a ditty to tune out God calling to me. If I were to do that (and I'm speaking from personal experience here, unfortunately), I'd be thoroughly miserable.

But if I say, “I will not remember Him or speak anymore in His name,” th

Hi Patty, your Fiction Fridays story was great! Such a good reminder for mothers and everyone that what we do is important and we really need to appreciate each other. I'll bet you are a terrific mom to those five kids!
Blessings, Connie
